Epidemic!

Rampant plastic degradation is spreading throughout major cities. It was happening in landfills and people were ok with it until the degradation began to be observed in gasoline containers and industrial areas. Scientists investigated the phenomenon and discovered colonies of unknown microorganisms throughout areas affected. Treehuggers hear of the problem and celebrate. Corporations panick: are they going to have to revert to using glass and metals? Is the era or durable flexible containers over? Some companies have been throwing money left and right at epidemiologists and plastic chemists to try to make it possible to use plastics once again. Will they find a solution? Will evolution catch up with the next feat of scientific engineering?
