I wrote this when I was like ten or something. I think it was the first poem I ever wrote. Halloween was my favorite holiday.
Halloween has not come yet
Halloween won’t come I bet
not until the demons come
to swallow all the children
not until the witches brew
singes whiskers off cats faces
not until the parents let
their children out at night
not until the unknown forces
scare them into fright
not until the children see
that it is quite all right
to stare into the dark
to stare out from the dark
Halloween will never come
unless we just kick back
and see what we’re afraid of
is only of our past
but I see the goblins running
chasing after that
and I see the goblins sitting
noticing they’re fat
with pain comes pleasure
or maybe vice-versa
but either way
the monsters
are here to stay
and I’ve seen my hallows-eve before
I know I’ll see it just once more
